During the celebration families will construct altars with flowers, foods and photos of their deceased loved ones. It is believed that the spirits of the deceased will visit their families as a result of the altars.

This past weekend Mesa Arts Center hosted their 12th Annual Dia De Los Muertos Festival. It was an event filled celebrations featuring food, folklorico dancers, an all female mariachi band and most importantly a processional to the community altar designed by artist Kyllan Maney. It is one of my favorite events to photograph due to its vibrance and overall atmosphere. Enjoy the images below.

City by The Bay https://slavog.com/blog/2018/2/city-by-the-bay As Arizona experienced it usual summer heat we decided to escape the the San Francisco Bay Area.

For those of you not familiar with the Arizona summers think of it as opening an oven to check on your cookies, but in the oven there is no cookies and you're just miserable. That's how the typical Arizona summer day feels.  So for us it was the perfect time to get away.

As we landed in Oakland we decided to plan out our adventures; we quickly realized our relaxation time had been transformed into a mad dash of sight seeing and exploration. One minute we were doing the typical touristy sightseeing; then in the blink of an eye we were wandering the massive Golden Gate Park exploring everything it had to offer its visitors.

Let’s just say after visiting the City by the Bay we did not want to go away! (my poetry skills are not that great )

Enjoy the Video and Thank You for reading!

Wedding with a View https://slavog.com/blog/2017/9/wedding-with-a-view How does one cheat at photography?  The answer is simple, all it takes is a breathtaking view and an incredibly gorgeous couple, then viola!! Magic.

Tara and Jared's ceremony took place at the Sky Ranch Lodge in Sedona, Arizona with a beautiful vista overlooking the Red Rocks. It was a photographers dream. The colors so intense it was almost unreal. Below are a few of my favorite shots of the stunning occasion. Congratulations to  Jared and Tara, it was an honor to be part of your big day!

Golden Aspen https://slavog.com/blog/2016/10/gold-aspen If I ever imagined myself placed inside of a painting, this would be it. We visited the gorgeous Lockett Meadow, with its indescribable beauty was breath taking to say the least. We hiked five miles round trip, which had only felt like one as we were so distracted by the magnificence that surrounded us and were too enamored to notice anything else. The aspen trees were abundant and could be described as a forest painted in gold. The air clean, crisp and cool. This was exactly what we needed after a long week.

The Heat of the Night https://slavog.com/blog/2016/10/the-heat-of-the-night Over the weekend I was invited to photograph the Chile Pepper Festival, an event hosted by the Roosevelt Row Community Development Corporation in downtown Phoenix.  When I say this was a cool event, I mean this was a cool event! Tons of people came out to sample cuisine from the plethora of local participating restaurants, this created a true sense of community. Each restaurant put their own clever spin on incorporating chile peppers into their recipes. There were Chocolate dipped chile peppers and chile pepper tatter tots and doughnuts with a hint of chile pepper, the list of creativity went on and on. The entertainment was lively and kept in with the latin theme. Shooting for this event was a lot of fun and with so much to work with, it made my job easy. My intention was to portray the event in its true essence, no flash necessary. I wanted to capture the atmosphere just as the eye would see it so that anyone viewing the photos would feel like they were there.

Anthony and Rose https://slavog.com/blog/2016/8/anthony-and-rose They say when it rains on your wedding day its good luck...what about on the day you propose? Hopefully that means double the good luck!

I had been in talks with Rose about a photoshoot for a few weeks prior to this special day. We set the date and drove up to Sedona for the shoot. As I arrived a strong storm was approaching. Several times that day I wanted to call and reschedule, so did she. Something inside of me kept telling me to wait it out.

As we made our way down to the location a light drizzle accompanied us. Lucky this light drizzle added to the magic of the moment. There was something very special, natural and sweet about the sudden weather. This is when the special moment happened. Anthony asked Rose to marry him. She said Yes!

Congratulations Guys, I look forward to photographing your wedding!

Happy Anniversary https://slavog.com/blog/2016/4/a-happy-anniversary-to-my-first-client It was four years ago when I offered to help my friend Matthew on his big day. I had no prior experience with photographing weddings but I was hopeful he'd give me the opportunity to undertake such a venture. I wanted to learn and I was ready for the challenge. To my surprise he agreed and the rest is history. It was a nerve-wracking and exhilarating task. I was determined to capture the essence of their special day.

This lovely couple were my first clients. For the opportunity and the experience, I am forever grateful. I would like to wish Matt and Victoria a happy 3rd anniversary. May you enjoy many years of married bliss. I am honored to have been a part of your special day.

Marcee & Travis https://slavog.com/blog/2016/4/marcee-and-travis This fun-loving couple was a pleasure to photograph. Their easy going attitudes, humor and obvious chemistry made for an excellent photoshoot environment- Not to mention we had perfect lighting that day. With these elements mixed together, the inspiration came flooding in.

Rustic country is the theme for their wedding. The location couldn't have been a better fit with the details in the colors of the truck to the wooden textures in the background matching their wedding motif perfectly.

I'd label this shoot as perfection. With such a photogenic couple, it's easy to say that.

Marcee and Travis- I wish you all the best and nothing but fun times ahead. I am happy to call you my friends.
